Program Information
The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) provides emergency financial help for people who are behind on their electricity or natural gas bills. If you’re at risk of having your service disconnected because of unpaid bills, LEAP may help cover the cost.
What You Get
- Up to $650 towards your electricity bill ($780 for electrically heated homes).
- Up to $650 towards your natural gas bill.
This is emergency financial support to help you keep your services running.
Eligibility Criteria
You must:
- Be behind on your electricity or natural gas bill (in arrears).
- Have a household income that falls within the limits below:
| People in your home | After-Tax Household Income |
| 1 to 7 | Less than $38,000 |
| 2 to 7 | $38,001 - $54,000 |
| 3 to 7 | $54,001 - $65,000 |
| 4 to 7 | $65,001 - $71,000 |
Important Notes
- This program offers one-time emergency financial assistance.
- You must be at risk of having your service disconnected.
- There are protections in place for low-income customers to prevent disconnection.
How to Apply
- Contact your utility company to ask about applying for LEAP if you’re behind on your bill.
- LEAP funds are applied directly to your outstanding balance.
