Energy Affordability Program (EAP)

Program Information

The Energy Affordability Program helps reduce electricity costs and improve comfort by offering free energy-efficient upgrades to homes. This program has two options:

  • Comprehensive Support: For those who need the most help, this includes a free in-home energy assessment to find ways to improve energy efficiency. Upgrades might include new appliances or weather-stripping.
  • Energy Saving Kits: For moderate-income households, these kits include items like LED light bulbs, timers, and clothes drying lines.

Both options are completely free.

What You Get

  • Comprehensive Support: A home visit from an energy expert, energy-efficient upgrades, possibly new appliances.
  • Energy Saving Kits: A kit with items to help save electricity, such as LED bulbs and timers.

Eligibility Criteria

Comprehensive Support: To qualify, you must meet one of the following:

  • Live in Social Housing, or
  • Own, rent, or lease your home, and meet one of these conditions:
    • Have a household income below the limits in the chart below, or
    • Have received government assistance like Ontario Works, ODSP, or the Guaranteed Income Supplement in the past year, or
    • Received energy assistance like LEAP or OESP in the past year.
    • Any on-reserve community member

Energy Saving Kits: To qualify, you must:

  • Own, rent, or lease your home in Ontario, and

Important Notes

  • This program is offered by the Independent Electricity System Operator.

How to Apply

  • For Comprehensive Support, an expert will come to your home to assess what upgrades can be made.
  • For Energy Saving Kits, the kit will be mailed to you.
