Course Description

Ishkoday has developed a course for First Nations Ontario Works Administrators, Housing Managers, and other related persons that focuses on the benefits of energy efficiency from a First Nations community, family, and induvial perspective. The intended target audience for this course is Ontario Works clients, but all interested people are welcomed with approval from the above-mentioned community lead.

Learning Objectives

The purpose of this session is to educate and empower First Nation citizens and communities to improve their energy efficiency. The objective is to reduce our energy usage while reducing the utility costs, all while being environmentally sustainable. This training will showcase the means to achieve this.

  • What is energy efficiency?
  • Understanding the energy grid
  • Challenges for First Nations Communities
  • What is a healthy home?
  • Heating and cooling
  • Understanding your bill
  • And more

Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn the following:

  • Why energy efficiency is important financially and for well-being
  • How electricity is generated and powers their homes
  • Why First Nation communities experience a unique “energy reality” and how energy efficiency can help
  • Tips for improving temperature and air quality
  • How your energy bill is calculated
